Summer Reading 2014

This summer all HSC ALSJ students are required to read at least two novels. The first novel will be a title assigned to you by your current English teacher. You will complete an in class performance task on that assigned novel within the first two weeks of the 2014-2015 school year. The second novel should be a title of your choice with a lexile within the upper range of your reading achievement level.

Once you return to school in September you will be required to take an Accelerated Reader quiz on your choice novel. Below, you will find suggestions for reading with a lexile number next to each title. Remember you can read any novel of your choice as long as there is an Accelerated Reader quiz available for that title. Check to make sure there is an available quiz. The chart below will help you decide if the novel is in the upper range of your reading achievement level.

The lexile of any book can be found at Use the quick book search box at the top right corner of the website to make sure the novel you choose is in the upper range of your reading achievement level as indicated by your Star Reading test results.
