Objective: to use math and science to analyze the world we live in with the goal of making it a better place.

It’s a lofty aspiration, but Baker and Mary’s iSTEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) class was up to the challenge when they went to the New Haven Green recently to practice using thedolites to analyze elevation and angles in order to determine the best approaches to beautifying a community space. The students were asked to “think like a scientist and like a mathematician and like a writer (a poet?).”

The students did a fantastic job of engaging in meaningful and thoughtful problem solving. They demonstrated such flexibility of mind that I think this class might produce the next Leonardo da Vinci!
